Oh, I forgot to add: when the band finished on Sunday night, a young lad of about 10, who I’d previously seen playing air-drums at the side of the stage, climbed into the drummer’s seat and proceeded to give an accomplished drum solo. The lad could barely reach the cymbols, put he played them as if he’d been up on stage all his life.

That, of course, only fuelled the demands for an encore, which was dutifully provided in the form of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, a song much better suited to the vocal talents of the lead singer than Fairytale of New York. And weekends like the one I’ve just had make it very easy to follow such advice, and see life’s bright side.
